Daily Guided Tours

Liberty is the founding ideal of our nation, and this program explores the ideas and events in Virginia that led to the American Revolution. The program, which is led by a costumed docent, also explores Patrick Henry's political career and the national and international implications of his “Liberty or Death” speech.


Location: Takes place inside the church
Audience: Appropriate for adults, families, and students
Students: Elementary, middle, and high school. SOL-aligned.
Program length: 30 minutes, including time for questions and answers. Tours begin every hour and half hour. The last tour of the day begins at 3:30 p.m.
2012 Rates:
Individuals: $7.00/adults, $6.00/seniors (62+), $5.00/ages 7-18, free/under 7
Groups of ten or more: $4.00 per student, $5.00 per adult (two adults per bus admitted free of charge)


Graveyard Tours

Our Graveyard Tour discusses the history and symbolism of the graveyard, as well as the lives of important Virginians buried here. Included in the discussion are George Wythe, Edward Carrington, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, and Dr. James McClurg.

Hallowe'en Graveyard Tour

Our Hallowe'en Graveyard Tour discusses the history and symbolism of the graveyard. Visitors will meet the spirits of the following people from early Richmond's history, buried here:

George Wythe, Signer of the Declaration of Independence;
Edward Carrington, Revolutionary War patriot; and
Elizabeth Arnold Poe, mother of Edgar Allan Poe

Location: Takes place outdoors in the graveyard
Audience: Appropriate for adults and families.
Program length: 30 minutes, including time for questions and answers. Tours start every twenty minutes, starting at 6:00pm. The last tour starts at 7:40pm. Cost: $5.00 per person, $15.00 per family

Poe Graveyard Tours

Our Poe Graveyard Tour introduces visitors to three people who were very important in Edgar Allan Poe's life and literary career, and discusses their influence on his works:

His mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, buried here;
His editor and employer, Thomas Willis White, buried here;
His childhood sweetheart and alleged fiance´ at the time of his death, Elmira Shelton, whose house is visible from the churchyard

Join us every Sunday from May 27th through September 2nd, as well as July 4th, for a thrilling performance.

Tickets distributed starting at 1:00 pm. Patriotic music begins at 1:30 pm. Reenactment program begins at 2:00 pm.
